Is it just us or whenever you tell someone that you are going to the mountains they ask “are you a skier or snowboarder?”. While skiing has been around longer, snowboarding has definitely become more popular within the last 20-30 years. While Colorado does seem to be geared more towards skiers, there are a lot of enjoyable runs for snowboarders as well in Breckenridge.
Breckenridge Ski Resort
Whether you are a skier or a snowboarder, Breckenridge mountain averages about 366 of fresh snow for both to enjoy. No matter the skiing or snowboarding ability of each person there is a slope for everyone to enjoy which is what makes this resort so popular.
The Independence Superchair serves the lower portion of Peak 7, which is a great area for intermediate skiers and snowboarders, who will love the various naturally rolling groomed runs. The trees and glades of Ore Bucket can hold some surprisingly fun powder stashes as well. The upper portion of Peak 7 is accessed via the Imperial Express Superchair on Peak 8. A short travers leads to more steep bowls and chutes that offer some awesome wide-open skiing and snowboarding. The Peak 7 chutes typically hold powder longer than some of the other areas on the mountain. It is not recommended, however, to ride this terrain when visibility is low, whiteout conditions are common high up above the treeline.
Lodging & Dining
Whether you are visiting on a budget or looking to stay at the resort there is a place to stay for everyone. The town of Breckenridge has plenty of places for rent at a reasonable price including a variety of nice and affordable Air BnB options. For those looking for a more luxurious stay they can stay at the resort close to the slopes!
Several on-mountain lodges at Breckenridge have a full range of dining options. These lodges are spread throughout the different peaks and base areas. After a long day of skiing and snowboarding the awesome high alpine terrain there are tons of great restaurants in town. Empire Burger is a great spot to get a quick and tasty burger, it’s right on Main Street, too. Breckenridge Brewery has great beers and food to match. Breck has a very lively nightlife, too. Cecilia’s hosts a handful of ski and snowboard movie premieres and events every year, and always parties hard into the night.
